Prescott Cyclery’s 396 TR. The 396 TR embodies the exciting nature of its namesake trail the #396 located in the Prescott National Forest. The 396 trail varies from a fast fun descent starting from the Senator Highway trail head to a climbers challenge from the White Spar camp ground side. The dual nature of the trail is reflected in the versatility of our trail day / race day (TR) format allowing the frame to work seamlessly with two different wheel and tire size configurations available for bicycles today. This gives you the option to fit smaller wheels with larger volume tires for “trail day” riding and fast descents. And to have a second set of the larger size wheels with smaller volume tires for your event or “race day” and fast ascents. Learn more about how the 396 TR is redefining what a “PLUS” bike can be. Here is what our customer’s have to say about the 396 TR. I built my TR396 over a month ago and somehow I grow more impressed with each ride. It truly does everything well. The balance is also superb; enabling me to consistently climb steep, technical sections of local trails that Id previously been obliged to clip out and hike. I assume its mostly down to frame geometry, but Im amazed at how much better this thing performs compared to other bikes Ive ridden. Best of all, its just über fun to ride. Thanks for a great product. CF, Prescott, Arizona. Jay- I finally got my 396 TR built up. Yesterday, I went out for a shakedown ride. Ended up riding a couple of hours! If I had just one word to describe my first impressions, it would be RESPONSIVE! The bike just wants to go, both climbing or descending. The frame is light, but felt solid. Pedaling energy isn’t wasted due to flexing. I didn’t notice any flex when standing to climb. That’s impressive to me, as I’m a bigger guy, and know all about frame flex. I would recommend the 396 TR frame to anyone looking for a frame that is light yet strong. The fact it can run either 27.5 or 29 wheels makes the 396 TR an even more versatile bike. I can’t wait to try it after I get my 27.5 wheels built! – WB, Lincoln, Nebraska. Allows me to scrub less speed prior to corners and accelerate quickly out of them. Very comfortable geometry that eliminates any sluggish sensation and climbs exceptionally well. This frame goes where you point it and flies up hill! – JR, Prescott, Arizona. I was kinda surprised about your product. First time I took a glance I thought the bikes were a bit pricey and missed the frame set. Second time I gave the frame set a better look, noticed the price was more my fancy, reach and tire clearance looks good, but its the low weight of the frames that really got me interested. Everything seems so damn heavy these days. Aluminum is hit or miss. Its either cheap and heavy or expensive and light, and of course tire clearance and geometry come into play. I was looking at the new SC Chameleon, Big Honzo, or Specialized Chisel, but I think your frame offers better numbers for a better price. Cant wait to see it in person. I’ll be in touch! – PH, Flagstaff, Arizona. GFGR Geometry for the 396 TR. Please see the pictures for more information. 6061-T6 Aluminum Hydroformed Frame. Head Tube: Tapered 1 1/8″ tp 1 1/2″. The 396 TR works seamlessly with two different wheel and tire size configurations available for bicycles today. This gives you the option to fit smaller wheels with larger volume tires for “trail day” riding. And to have a second set of the larger size wheels with smaller volume tires for your event, “race day”. 396 TR fits 27.5″ wheels with 2.8″ to 3.0 tires for everyday riding. 396 TR fits 29″ wheels with 2.0″ tires for race day riding. Why did we develop the frame this way? The trail day / race day format gives you the maximum flexibility for using your bike. This has many advantages for you the rider, most importantly familiarity with your bike come the day of your event which is key to your personal success. The format gives you the ability to swap in the bigger tires for unplanned wet or technical courses. This is particularly useful for the growing trend of “Enduro” style stages at the multi day race formats. The larger volume tires provide an extra measure of confidence and “cush” without needing a second bike. Also remember our frame accepts dropper posts for an added level of go fast, get rad (GFGR) fun! Our frame’s versatility and great features don’t end with the wheels. The over-sized Press-Fit BB30 works with our bottom brackets or others to allow you to fit any style of crank you wish. We can even fit an eccentric bottom bracket to tension the chain should you want to run the frame as a single speed. We have a generous amount of chain ring clearance allowing up to 36 teeth! This gives you the most gearing options for 1 x 11 and 1 x 12 drive trains. Our exclusive drop chain stay replaces the flat plates and extra welding found on other frames. This strengthens this critical junction while reducing weight. The s-bend down tube accommodates two large water bottles on all three frame sizes including the small. The external cable routing is modular and is easily switched from two to three cables to tailor the fit to your exact component specifications. We added a third set of mounts to the top tube for your extra tube, air, lights or Bento box to hold your food. This makes our frame ideal for Xterra or Marathon Mountain Biking events. The 396 TR’s three frame sizes fit riders from 5′ up to 6′ 4. Please see our geometry chart to decide which is the right size frame for you. Frame includes the Boost 148 x 12 x 1.5 e-thru axle and flat mount adapter for a 160mm rear disc rotor. SAG – Suspension Adjusted Geometry. The 396 TR is designed to account for the effects of suspension sag on the frame’s geometry (please see the attached diagrams). When the front fork compresses from full extension, the frame and rider pivot around the rear axle. Because of this every dimension on the frame is changed. Fork compression causes the frame’s angles to become steeper by 3/4 of a degree per centimeter of travel. The change lowers the bottom bracket and brings the cranks closer to the ground. The rider’s center of gravity is pulled forward and down, the trail is shortened, and the steering becomes quicker. This creates a compromised position for the rider when going over or down obstacles. We have solved the issue described above by designing our frame at 20% sag we optimize the frame’s geometry and the rider’s position. This ensures that when you are negotiating obstacles, your position and the bikes geometry is dialed. This is why our head tube angle appears steeper than on traditional geometry charts.
