Mountain Bike Frame

Item re-listed, this could be your lucky day. What’s that Dad? Well son, it’s the MUDFATHER a very cool and super-rare lightweight aluminium mountain bike, one of the first competition bikes hand made in Yorkshire by Pace. In fact it’s historically important as one of the first hand made competition bikes made in England. Only about 150 ever made. Unusual square tube construction (including seat tube) with the grease nipples on the head and bottom bracket. Original CAD and Pace decals. And with the Magura Racelines Hydro Stop brakes fitted from new. Even rarer in this larger size. Bought by my Dad second hand from a line up of used bikes at Leisure Lakes Bikes in 1998 and not used a lot since. Patina of age (for condition see photos) due to storage rather than abuse or off road use. Frame size 21″ suit somebody at least 5’10″ (too big for little me or I’d keep it). Frame, square aluminium rebated frame, paint bubbled, cable clips missing. Bars, strong and light. RC30 forks (we think). Suntour Power Control gear shifters. Seat, off a Cannondale. Deore DX rear mech. Note this has been helicoiled to the frame this week by Leisure Lakes Bikes this week. Yellow paint is a bit flaky. R60338 (possibly made to order). We’ve cleaned it up and my Dad’s given the gears & brakes the once-over. When he took the derailleur off to clean it he found that it had been helicoiled back in the day by the former owner. So we got Leisure Lakes Bikes to put a new helicoil on. The thread didn’t look too bad though. You could be the new owner of this very rare vintage classic. I haven’t seen another for sale. It so happens that my neighbour is a specialist welder, so I asked him for his opinion and he said he could test it for me. My neighbour has dye penetration tested both areas and given it a clean bill of health. He also said the welding was to a high standard. He polished the paint away locally and used a specialist pink dye kit. Then after leaving it a short while you spray on the white powdery developer. He has assured me there are no cracks on the frame. He says that what the guy thought were cracks are just the shapes of the weld or maybe where the paint had gone flaky. The test shows the flaws in the paint up too, that’s why he polished it away from the weld first. My neighbour took photos before and during the tests showing what he did. He says if anybody buys it and has any concerns about the frame they can come here to pick it up and he’ll do any test in front of them now he’s brought the kit home.
