DeKerf Generation Retro Reynolds 631 MTB Frame Size 18.5. If you know your retro and high-end Canadian steel, you’ll know that Chris DeKerf has been very highly regarded right from when he first started making frames under his own name in the early 1990′s. He had previously worked at Rocky Mountain and others before deciding to go it alone. I first became aware of them in 1994, when they had only one model, the Mountain, made from the finest Ritchey WCS tubing, mainly TIG welded but with a’work-of-art’ fillet brazed wishbone and seat-cluster. They subsequently added a slightly cheaper model, the Generation, made from Reynolds 631 which lost the fillet brazed seat cluster area, and the top of the range hardtail was renamed the SL, made from Reynolds 853 tubing. This is an example of the Generation model, frame number DEK2596. The 631 tubing gives a slightly more comfortable ride with very little increase in frame weight. Later models of the SL from this era also lost the fillet brazing so tube-type is the only real difference between them. It’s a DeKerf size 18.5 with the following actual dimensions when fitted with a 445mm axle to crown forks. Seat Tube Centre to Top: 18.5 / 47cm. Top Tube Effective Horizontal Centre to Centre: 23.5 / 59.5cm. Head Tube End to End: 4.25 / 11cm. Headset size: 1 1/8. Seatpost size: 27.2mm. Wheel size: 26. Axle spacing: 100mm front / 135mm rear. Frame weight: 1995g. This particular example is in excellent used condition sporting its original dark metallic green paint which is deep and even all over, with a glossy shine. DeKerf paint is still the best I have even seen. There are a few light marks and chips here and there, most notably on the right hand seat-stay near the rear mech and the underside of the right hand chain stay. Both these are shown in photos. There are also some very light scratches along the left side of the top tube from the gear and brake cables but these are hardly noticeable. I’m thinning my collection of DeKerfs from 7 to 1! This is considerably less than what you’d pay for a new one and available now! For 26 wheels and rim brakes only! Will be very carefully packed with each tube protected with thick, new foam pipe lagging and rear axle spacer installed before being placed into a sturdy box. Very rare to find one in this sort of restored condition. The frame was originally a blue race frame however the paint was very bad but the frame itself was straightThe frame has been restored, it was stripped bare metal and powder coated in Candy flip tone that looks purple, blue and just pops in the sun light. Do some research on retro bike, it was a thing. I bought it as a project but not enough time and this one really is a big project. These frames have a habit of braking the bonds between the glued tubes and lugs. The paint on the lugs are one sneeze away from fully going, as the alloy has oxidised underneath the paint. It only has one brake mount so will need to source or make one. The main linkage between shock and rear stays is missing so again, source or make. Everything is rusted or oxidised. Seat post isn’t seized luckily. The bb present seems good but I dare try to take it out, I think it holds the chain stays in place as it pivots here. A big project but only if you’re brave. Not for me, I’ve got a house that needs rebuilding you know how it is. They do look very nice when fully built up, last picture is obviously for inspiration and is nothing to do with me.

Frame is 17.5 measuring from top of seatube to bottom of bottom bracket. In excellent used condition but does have 3 very small dints on top tube and age / use related small cosmetic marks as to be expected. Top tube where dints are is a slightly flatter paint finish as previous owner filled and sprayed them but didn’t make a decent job and colour match wasn’t the best so it got rubbed off leaving paint flatter. If i was keeping I was just going to put a nice matching carbon top tube patch / protector over these as they really are small and would prevent cable rub etc on a new build up. (no rear shock bb or headset included) included is frame and seat post collar only. Frame and shock listed together in my other listing if interested.

Frame has some aluminium oxidation due to the clear lacquer, but has no dents or dings. Forks are in good working order and appear to function well. Comes complete with Fox Float rear shock in good condition, Cannondale headset, SLX front mech, seat post clamp. Also, comes complete with original owners manuals.
Metallic black with stealth graphics. Standard quick release 135mm width drop outs. Oversized head tube for upton1.5 fork steerer so will take a tapered steerer with correct headset installed. Frame has lots of scuffs, scratches, cable run, paint bubbling etc so would really benefit from a respray. Pivot bearings feel fine with no play detected. BB threads are great. Size is a medium I believe, it measures 17″ from centre of BB to top of seat tube and it’s 22″ from centre of head tube to centre of seat tube. Shock size is 200mm i2i with a 50mm stroke.
