In very nice condition all around. The rope coat is slightly flaking away all over, it’s not so noticeable until you’re up close. The decals are original and mostly intact. Dropouts are all good and hanger in great shape. All welds look quite tidy and whole. The seatpost I’ll include, but it’s not original, and it’s not very nice, it’s also shimmed. Which I’ll also include. Stem also included and I’m not sure if this is original or not, it’s got some surface rust on, it’s in ok condition. Bb threads nice and clean – I’ll include the original shimano un51 bb which is in good condition with nice smooth bearings, but it needs a clean. All in all a very nice base for a really nice looking bike. I really wish it’d be a smaller size as if really love to build it up into something cool. Sadly I have little legs and there’s no chance. The sunshine makes the stickers look yellow in the pictures. They are very much orange though. Seat tube 540 or 21. Head tube 1 inch. All measurements are c2c.
Lee Cooper LA Cycles Elevated Chainstay Retro Steel MTB Frame like Dave Yates Vulcan. Here we have a very rare beast. In fact it’s the only be ever built. Lee Cooper is a master frame builder based in Coventry. He’s done contract building for most of the British frame manufacturers and for a time in the 1990′s he and business partner Al, ran LA Cycles behind John Atkins Cyckes on Far Gisfird Street. Lee was the builder and Al was the painter. Their bikes were fully custom in the vane of Dave Yates, Chas Roberts et al and on the rare occasion their bikes were tested in magazines, they loved them. In the late 80′s / early 90′s lots of people were experimenting with elevated chainstay bikes. They were briefly popular but solved a problem that didn’t really exist and had some inherent flaws like BB stiffness, heel-clash on the chainstays and weight. Lee got over the first two of these issues by using Reynolds Tandem tubing in a massive 38mm diameter for the down / top tube and 31mm wide fork blades for the chainstay / seatstay. To make the joints rigid, he used plenty of fillet brazing which was not smoothed down to keep its maximum integrity. Lee told me Al was not a small guy. Well he was quite short but strongly built, so this was a great test of its strength and it never had any problems. But it is quite heavy at 3.275kg for frame, fork and headset at a time when his lightweight XC frameset were around 2.5kg. I’m not sure why they didn’t make more to sell but this is the ONLY elevated chainstay bike Lee ever made. I know Lee quite well both from bitd and from doing a lot of frame repairs on my retro MTB fleet and so when he was moving his workshop he offered me his old frames. All but three are now gone. I’m keeping one. My son has been riding this for the past 3 years and loves it but he’s now progressed to a slightly larger Cotic so it’s time to move it on to an appreciative collector. Bring fully custom, it’s not a “size” as such but I guess you’d call it a 16 based on seat tube length centre to top. The actual dimensions are. Seat tube centre to top: 16 / 41cm. Top tube effective horizontal: 20.75 / 53cm. Head tube end to end: 3.5 / 9cm. Seat post diameter: 27.2mm. Front mech diameter: 28.6mm. Headset: 1 threaded. Fork axle to crown: 39cm. Rear axle spacing is 130mm but you can splay them slightly to get a 135mm wide hub in if you like. This worked surprisingly well; better than cantilever in my opinion. The paint has lots of chips, especially the light blue portions but you could touch in the chips on the dark blue parts easily enough and re-spray the light blue fade. A lovely retro Cannondale R500 road bike (2.8 aluminium) frameset (Hand built in the USA) in very nice polished aluminium/black. I believe this to be a November 1995 model based on the frame number identification (See photos). There are some chips/scratches/rub marks/sticker damage/oxidisation on the frameset. There are no cracks in the frame (See photos). There are 2 indentation dents where the front mech has been attached to the seat post tube (See photos). It is nothing to worry about. The frame design has a shaped indentation on the drive side chainstay, near the bottom bracket for more clearance for the crankset and the same for the bottom of the drive side seat stay for more clearance around the cassette (See photos). Both of these are part of the frame design and are not damage to the frame and nothing to worry about (See photos). There is some surface rust on the bottle cage bolt holes (See photos). All this is purely cosmetic and nothing to worry about. Comes complete with a bottom bracket which moves very smoothly & freely, aluminium allen key quick release seat post clamp, Cannondale black aluminium removable rear dropout, plastic bottom bracket cable guide and brand new stainless steel bottle cage bolts (See photos). The frameset would be truly stunning when polished up. The frameset has been thoroughly washed and GT85′d. The frame will be carefully wrapped before being posted. The frame still has it original St. John Street Cycles dealer label (The dealer is better known now as SJS Cycles) (See photos). A fabulous retro Cannondale R500 frameset. Muddy fox team mfx frame. Really cool uncommon frame. Has a heap of different eyelets for you to position the rear shock, so you can really change up the kinematics of the shock – quite ahead of its time. Frame is in overall good condition. Scuffs and scratches about, nothing deep or troublesome. The rear triangle is surprisingly scratch free. Bb threads are in good order. Includes seatpost and clamp. Also fsa headset which is fairly usable as is. The rear shock is a “shock works” I’ve never heard of it but it seems fairly well made. The main pivot is in good condition, no apparent wear. The lower shock bushing has some play, it looks like it’s just a standard nut and bolt through it so maybe this is the issue. Hanger and dropouts all in good order. V brake bosses and IS disc brake tabs so you have options how you want to run it. Size 18 460 bb to seatpost clampl. Effective top tube (post clamp to steerer) 530. All measurements are centre to centre.

Trek Retro stp400 in team trek vw colour. I believe from 2001. Overall condition is very good. Top tube has scuffing from cable rattle. Head tube has a couple of grooves from cable rattle. Drive side frame stay(seat stay) has a groove from cable rub. Top of seat tube has some cable rub also. The stickers are a little scratched and rubbed in places. But there’s bonus period stickers on it too m, rock shox – x-lite and a really old hope sticker. Bb threads are great, have just been chased just to clean them out. A reasonable richey logic headset is included. Original bontrager seat post and a third party seat post clamp. Hanger is straight and true. Has a cane creek ad5 rear shock on it which I believe is an upgrade to the regular sid rear shock that was oem. Please use the pictures alongside the description as not every little thing can be documented. It’s a good solid frame that will build up nicely. Top tube 560mm (22). Down tube, 650mm (24, 1/2). Seat tube 500mm (20).
I have for sale. X1 Used Orange five frame. Just restored, frame was professionally stripped and powder coated. Bottom Bracket was chased and the shell faced. Lastly new genuine decals and head badge from Orange applied. Top tube: 22.5. Fork steerer: 1 1/8. BB shell width: 73mm. Post diameter: 27.2mm. Rear hub required 135mm x 9mm QR. Brake mount: IS Disc mount. Shock: Manitou Swinger 3 Way. Overall in superb condition. No play in the bearings or bushings. The shock works well as does its rebound. With the new paint it look superb. There is a tiny dink on the down tube (see picture). There are a couple of tiny blemishes to the paint but you aren’t going to find a better Orange five frame any time soon. Sale will include the seat clamp however seat post is not included.
