Probably vintage by now, in unusually fine condition considering it’s 35 years old. Interesting paint job – I believe the smoky effect was achieved by using heat as the paint was applied. I doubt there are many of these bikes of this age in this original, un-restored condition. Designed in the USA and made in Taiwan in 1989. I think this number suggests January 1989 as manufacturing date. Never been used in the mud – or even the rain, mostly road use and occasional gentle dirt (dust) track stuff. I can attest to this fact as I bought it new in 1989 (see photo of receipt). The receipt shows that I was about to collect a Ridgeback, but then I saw this. Bought from Terry Wright Cycles, which still trade in Peterborough today. I would estimate this bike has done a total mileage of around 1,000 miles in its long life. All original; this bike has not had anything replaced. It hasn’t been used enough times to need anything replacing. It even has the original’Farmer John’s Cousin’ tyres that still hold pressure, although on close inspection age related cracking on the edges is apparent. The speedo (Cat Eye) and storage bag (Specialized) are around the same age as the bike. According to the receipt this bike has an 18-inch frame. I’m not clear about how this is actually measured, so I’ve included a tape measure picture positioning the end of the measure at the centre of the pedal crank. I’m 5ft 7ins, 30in inside leg if that’s any help. There are a few small wear and tear marks (see photos) and there’s a reflector missing from one of the pedals. Some light rusting on the black chrome where the handlebars adjust, and a few bits of light rust on some of the chromed and steel bits (see photos). There are spanner marks on the handlebar clamp nut as I seem to remember it had a habit of coming loose, and on one occasion I didn’t have the correct spanner. There is a mark and discolouration to the paint where a rear light was fitted. But really considering its age, it’s only showing a light patination of use. It’s mostly been kept inside a house and for around 5 years was in a garage. I last used it a few times 6 years ago. Everything still works fine – including the speedo. 18-inch (I think, see pictures). Excellent un-restored vintage condition, with minimal wear. SO IT NOW IS POSSIBLE FOR ME TO POST THIS! AND YES, I’M STILL IN NORTH EAST SCOTLAND WHICH IS A LONG WAY FROM ENGLAND… Any questions please contact me.
