Mountain Bike Frame

Large / 20 On One / Lynskey, Inbred / 456 titanium, Fresh Decals, Cane Creek headset, On One seatclamp. This is an On One Inbred Titanium manufactured by Lynskey in Tennessee, later models were called “On One 456s” because the frames can be used with 4,5 or 6 inch travel forks, this is the original “hardcore hardtail”. I have cleaned this frame with rubbing alcohol, removed the original decals and rubbed the whole thing down with wet and dry paper to give a nice “brushed” look. I have then applied new, more modern, On One decals in an unusual blue colour (Ti On One 456s have always had black or silver/grey decals). I have protected all of the main tubes with matte invisitape and I’ve put a blue metal On One badge on the headtube. The frame is for use with 26″ wheels, a 1 1/8″ headset and a 27.2mm seatpost. I bought this frame as a used complete bike and then stripped it down in order to refurbish it, during that process I noticed a hairline crack down the back of the seat tube, which was only noticeable under close inspection. This was caused by the original owner riding with too much seatpost sticking out. I took it to Vernon Barker’s frame builders to be repaired, he is a well-respected local custom frame builder with over 30 years experience building and repairing bike frames. He could have welded it and then ground it down with an angle grinder, but apparently if you do that it is likely to return, by leaving plenty of weld on there it is much stronger and shouldn’t crack again. It also has a small dent on the bottom of the down tube near to the bottom bracket, this doesn’t affect the strength. The damaged areas are shown it the last 3 photos. With a rear wheel fitted the weld repair is not visible. I have also applied self-amalgamating tape to protect the chainstays and 3M 2228 mastic tape to the bottom of the downtube. I have taken pictures of the damaged areas before applying the tape these can be seen in photos 8,9 and 10. I have reflected the fact that the frame has been damaged and repaired in the price.
