Not to be confused with the more common and less durable aluminium frames, these are ultra tough and equally rare. The idea behind these was to provide a really strong frame, forks, and finishing kit inc chainset, some tough wheels, but keep it affordable by using lower end mechs and V brakes as these would be easy to upgrade in the future. I bought this new many years back, but I had other bikes I was riding at the time, and it felt a bit small, so I never really rode it. Since then I upgraded it slightly with some Avid V brakes (original Tektro weren’t great), new pedals (Kona ones are available but have some paint flake), grips (old ones disintegrated), and a smaller jump specific saddle (not sure where the original is) and gave it to my son to ride. Unfortunately he isn’t a keen rider and has ridden it about 5miles in total I would guess, hence bobbles on tires, and us now taller than me! It is in amazing condition for it’s age (2003/4), and the frame and forks are nearly indestructible and worth loads on their own. The geometry is great, and this is the sought after second generation frame where they modified the seat tube and backstay design to fix the failure point of the MkI (I was a Kona dealer at this point).

Extremely rare Scott Team Issue Scandium XC MTB Frame. Weighs only 1050g on my wife’s kitchen scales, one of the lightest frames made at the time. This is a high quality scandium alloy frame, not to be confused with some of the poor quality low scandium content frames. No disc mounts, for V-brakes only. Old school hardtail cross country frame for 26 wheels. Owned from new by me, from the early 2000s, had very little dry weather use before being dry stored. Was built up as a lightweight flat bar gravel bike (before the term had been coined) to complement my Gary Fisher that I used for XC riding. In extremely good condition for a frame that has been ridden. There are some marks, which I’ve tried to show in the photos, but it still looks really nice. Dimensions: 54cm c-c top tube 38cm c-t seat tube 43cm c-c seat tube. I’m 5’10 and like a small frame with a good amount of seatpost. My wife is 5’4 and can ride my mountain bikes (with a lower saddle). I don’t think anyone taller than 5’10″ would be able to ride this comfortably, but between 5’4″ and 5’10 certainly could.

Retro Kona Cinder Cone Bike Frame. 1993 Model with double butted steel tubeset; to my mind the best year for retro Kona’s. It was the first year to get serious about weight saving and had the nicest two colour fade paint jobs. This was the same frame as on the Lava Dome (the cinder cone was specced and priced higher). Signs of the years and age. Rusty in places but structurally sound. No cracks or dents.

There are some scrapes and paint loss, mainly by the bottom bracket, on the rear stay, but there are no dents or cracks. There are marks and scratches from usage but still in decent condition. All areas of the frame are shown in the photos, so please study them before purchasing. The bottom bracket threads are mint as is the rear mech hanger and thread. It comes with the original seatpost clamp and bottle cage. The frame size is MEDIUM, and the dimensions are. 18 inches from centre of bottom bracket to top of seat tube. 22 inches from centre of seat tube to centre of headtube. 34mm external cup headset. Straight 1 1/8 fork steerer. 68mm BSA English bottom bracket. 27.2mm seatpost diameter. It fits disc or rim brake and both mounts are fine. I have inspected it thoroughly whilst cleaning it prior to listing and there are definitely no cracks or dents.
